Technical Advisory Group on Resource Allocation

Ensuring Fair Shares for everyone across Scotland

Welcome to the TAGRA website. This website has been setup to support the work of TAGRA and disseminate research and consultation.

The Technical Advisory Group on Resource Allocation (TAGRA) has been established to carry on the work of overseeing the maintenance and development of the NRAC formula. TAGRA has been formed in response to a recommendation from The NHSScotland Resource Allocation Committee (NRAC) in its Final Report published in September 2007 that there was a need for an ongoing review to ensure that the formula is kept up to date.

The formula aims to provide a transparent and fair mechanism for dividing resources for hospital and community health services and GP prescribing between the 14 territorial Health Boards.

The NHSScotland Resource Allocation Committee (NRAC) was established in March 2005 to ‘improve and refine’ the Arbuthnott Formula for resource allocation for NHS Scotland which has been used since 2000 to allocate NHS funds to Health Boards. The formula allocates funds for hospital and community health services and GP prescribing which in total account for approximately 70% of the total NHSScotland budget.
